MORE: Caribbean Essence at THE GALLERY BERLIN
The Caribbean has long been recognized as a region bustling with great creativity, fueled in grand measure by its ethnic and cultural diversity. When speaking about the essence of the Caribbean, the first thing that comes to mind is the allure of our scenery and our people. This is best translated within our fashion sense and style.
There is no denying that the Caribbean Fashion stamp is steadily growing. The birth of Caribbean Fashion Week some 12 years ago has been a powerful launch pad for regional designers at the annual three-day showing and has attracted major media houses like Italian Vogue, V Magazine from Belgium and Nova TV from Croatia, while spreading a global awareness of Caribbean Fashion.
With the popularity of Carnival mass, and the growth of the reggae movement, comes a unique Caribbean aesthetic which is a symbolism of our roots and culture.
The Caribbean Essence Fashion Showcase, an initiative of Caribbean Export Development Agency, will demonstrate the vibrancy and creative expression for which we are known.
For this Showcase, five of the regions’ most esteemed fashion designers have been curated to present their new SS/14 collections to the industry at The Gallery Berlin: DRENNA LUNA from Jamaica, HEATHER JONES and MEILING from Trinidad and Tobago, FIFTH ELEMENT DESIGNS from Barbados as well as ORIETT DOMENECH from the Dominican Republic, who has learned her craft from Oscar de la Renta.
